ASP Drug Aware Margaret River Pro: Taj vs Bede re-runWith 3 minutes left of R3:H1, Taj needed an 8.17 to catch Bede. Taj chose his wave and started paddling, but got his hand caught in Bede’s leash. The judges decided to re-run the heat at the end of the day. Crazy start and finish to the day. Here’s the video of the incident, as well as the ASP interview with Bede after the re-run.
Rather than drag himself home to have a cheeky cry, Taj went straight to the judges booth. And for good reason, because after a few hours of debate, a re-surf was called. According to some rule in some unknown ASP handbook, the situation had caused an impediment to Taj’s ability to surf the wave to his full potential, and therefore, to win the heat (and it did). So at the end of the day, after the whole of round three had finished and the waves were beyond gross, Taj and Bede paddled back out. Taj, determined. Bede, angry, cold and ropeable. But Bede went out with ferocity. -more-
